Weekend imagery....

Full to the brim with all that this weekend gave me:

Hot date (that lasted two days!)
Buzzing city, yummy dinner at The Aviary, breakfast in hidden alleyways, tea in a bone china cup,
coffee that does not disappoint, galleries, Gosford Park and a brand new chicken run (no photos since that deserves a post of it's own! Watch this space...)
PS - Today is TWO post day... glorious thrifted delights to follow...

Lucky find...

A very dear family member celebrates a birthday and we are invited to High Tea.
Deciding to make an effort for this fellow
"Austen appreciating, tea imbibing lady"
I investigate the feasibility of hiring a fancy costume.

Think Mad Hatter tea party or something say.....

Victorian?

Can you imagine my delight when I drive past a
Salvation Army store and spot this in the window?

Brakes screeched, heart raced....
"probably won't fit me though"
(she thought)

Well not only did it fit
(like a glove)
but the lovely ladies even had this in store ....

A tulle underskirt made for a wedding dress!

Mmmm .... meant to be methinks

And just look at the detail.
I imagine it was made either as a wedding dress
(for a fellow period drama enthusiast such as myself)
or a costume for a film/play.

So for a fraction of the cost of hiring an outfit,
I am now the proud (if somewhat obsessed) owner of
a small piece of period perfection.

I might add that I have been wearing it around the house (when no one's home of course)
and, I think, doing a Maaaarvelous & Sooooper job of...

... walking up straight, swishing and swirling.

So...
Good day to you my lovelies. If you'll kindly excuse me,
I have some rather pressing matters to attend to, calling cards to deliver,
ribbons to acquire...

Weekend Antics

A very wet weekend.
Still coughing and spluttering but on the mend.

FRIDAY

Turned up the music and loved my home back into order.
So satisfying getting all the floors done and filling the home with flowers.

SATURDAY

Where did Saturday go?
Disappeared in a flash it did.
Memorable highlights include seeing the cutie nieces
and sharing a "champagne therapy session" with my besty.
(Thanks Jax)

SUNDAY

As I mentioned in the last post I am in the midst of putting together
a gift for a friend who is brilliant in the kitchen. She makes the most delicious
Blackberry Jam I have ever consumed and I thought in order to repay her in kind,
my gifts should be hand made too.

However - preserves are not really my forte so I am sticking to
more crafty tokens and these clay tags (for her gastronomic delights)
are the next part of my gift.

I rolled out the clay as you would pastry. Then using cookie cutters I shaped them.
Next you pierce a hole in them so that twine can be added later.

I used a letter-press set to add some words.

Quite chuffed with the end result really.
The clay is from Spain and very reasonably priced.

After allowing it to air dry you can paint or varnish them.
I'm thinking I'll leave mine unpainted.
Bit more rustic methinks.

Then time for more music and a spot of sewing.
Lit the candles - rain outside.
Hubby & Prince at a country football match.
House to myself.
Blissfully peaceful and therefore - productive.

By the way - if you have the chance to listen to this then do.
Loreena Mckennit is truly something else.

Finished the tote....

.... complete with a pouch to house the muslin food covers.

Then all that was left to do was oraganize a tray of bliss...

Curl up on the couch and ....

(I think I too shall toast cheese and bread over an open fire one day... in a manor
house.... wearing the very latest poplin and ribbons...)

..... relax.

Sigh.... all in all a wonderful weekend.

Beauty is everywhere...

With eyes that seek

And trees that cry

and books that show us

the strangest things,

like soaps that dance!

I'm left to wonder what a flower feels

or a candle says

to me...

When the romantic refinements of a young mind are obliged to give way, how frequently are they succeeded by such opinions as are but too common and too dangerous!
