Yummy Floral Fancies...

For my birthday this year (way back in March) I received the most scrumptious antique cake stand from my brother and sister-in-law. I was really touched by the fact that they had gone antiquing expressly to find my gift and mildly excited by the prospect of all the sweet treats I would adorn it with.
I have since used it for cake, cookies and chocolate... loads of chocolate.

However.
One of my favourite uses has turned out to be quite the floral fancy.

I love filling all my little apothecary bottles with various blooms and sprigs
(mostly from my garden and the bush) ...

... and then displaying them on - and around - the cake stand.
Here we have a sublime pastel blend of Wild Freesias, Geraldton Wax, Petunias and Daisies.

Looks good enough to eat. Yes?

What I love most about this approach is that the old catch phrase "a little goes a long way" really does apply here. By placing many small or single blooms in a multitude of bottles; and then grouping them on the stand you get the illusion of a large bouquet - without the price tag.
(and might I say it can be quite the conversational centre piece at a tea party)

I also like to add other bits and bobs such as pebbles, beads, jewels, feathers,
lollies and yes... chocolates (think individually wrapped Belgian treats)

Now when I sit at my kitchen table I can admire these delicate delights as well as scoffing a sweet treat (or three) all the while smirking at my thrifty, multifaceted domestic tableaux.

I think it would make a great addition to a wedding table and of course brighten any respectable morning tea gathering. Perhaps even perfect for a bridal or baby shower?

Nothing excites me more than the perfect melding of function and form, an idea birthed from the conceptual realm into the... blah blah blah

Just pass the chocolates would ya!

Hello:
Not only is the cake stand so very, very pretty, but we love your idea of arranging small glass containers of flowers on it. A lovely and very effective idea. And, as you say, where the flowers are concerned, a few really do go a long way which here, where they do not last, is important.

As divine as the rest of your house. What about a mixture of cup cakes with icing sugar flowers and your flower bottles? Looking forward to seeing all that your garden grows soon.
