Happy Bees...

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.
(Robert Frost)

Yes people .. it's official.
Spring has arrived in Perth.
She's unpacked her bags.
She'll be staying a while methinks

This is good news for Maris...

... Lillith....

.... and (stunning) Roz...

... they love all the bugs, the worms and the flies that
inevitably accompany Spring to town.

Eddie loves it too... he doses in the sunshine and
starts whenever a bee buzzes by...

... the garden needs some TLC ...

...but we'll get there I'm sure...

Meantime I'm just soaking up all the
life ... the energy...

... the abundance.

I treated myself to a bunch of Ranunculus
(such a harsh name for such a delicate flower?)

They're from the lovely Sandy
at PODZ

I spent the morning photographing
(& chatting) her stunning store.
I'll be posting about that soon.
In the meantime I have these to
brighten up the house and
affirm the seasons change.

What is in store for your weekend peoples?
Mine:

Football
(having the worlds most supportive Hubby
requires one to make some
sacrifices from time to time)

Gardening - nothing too major - just
pottering, weeding and sowing seeds.

Reading - I have two novels on the go
and I plan on finding me a tree, a tea-pot
and a pillow at some stage.

Editing ... I made a short film about our beach house
adventure and I'm putting it together to share.

Well as you can see not too much ahead but when
you factor in eating, sleeping, baking and
hanging out with family the weekend seems
too short. Bring on school holidays I say.

Take care peoples.
Enjoy the sunshine fellow Oz folk.
Warmth and lingering sunshine to all
well North of the Equator :-)

Something lovely....

Spring is in full swing.

Being outside during the day is utterly blissful.
In my bid to lure some of this magic indoors
I have made a "Spring Branch"

The blossoms that ordained this Plum Tree branch have long since fell off.
However I decided not to throw it out...

I have hung little bottles on it and filled them with Jasmine and Freesias.

It's so lovely walking into the kitchen in the morning, looking at my colourful little
hearth and drinking in the sweet scent of the Jasmine.

I used wire & these handy little hooks to secure the apothecary bottles....

Then I added a few bits of pink ribbon - for extra "pizazz"

I love the way the fairy lights sparkle in the water of each bottle...

Kind of like giant raindrops

I think even my ceramic bunnies are enjoying the frivolity of this
Ode to Spring.

They look especially magical at night....

My very own Neverland.

Indeed I am at a loss without my candles and string lights.
Hubby jokes that I should own shares in the tea light industry.

I have even rejected the environmentally friendly, energy saving merits of LED lights.
I'm afraid their "glow" (or lack of) just doesn't measure up.

Apologies then to the inventors of this earth loving technology.
I will embrace it where I can.

But do not ask me to give up my
traditional string lights.
Please.

In my defence though I must add that I usually have
every other light source turned off at night

The hidden agenda being that I wish to savour all the romantically
 lit treasures in my home.
Teeny tiny bit selfish yes...
But ever so pretty too

******

PS - My clay tags are all dried and I've attached the twine.
I'm happy with the result.

What say you?

Seasonal senti-mental-ity

Call me crazy (and crazy I am!) but I'm going to miss Winter.
Yes I know... sunshine, warmth, swimming, beer and stuffed chillies...
And I am looking forward to all of this, but a tiny whiff of melancholy has crept in.
Good bye toes socks, au revoir wooly scarves, tata to red jacket and black boots...sniff sniff.
However...

As I find myself drinking in the scent of spring blooms and cutting down on the winter layers I am slapped about the face by logic and gratitude....

...and colour!
(our Cumquat bush is soldiering on like trooper, oblivious to the seasons end.
Poor thing has no idea that he can just put his feet up now and rest. Shhh!)

Grevillea Peaches & Cream
Indeed the garden (however neglected) has erupted in a show of blooms and foliage
that cannot possibly allow one to stay in a gloomy mood.
Perhaps I do love Spring as much as I do Winter?

Duranta erecta - Sheena's Gold
Of course I do.

Dillwynia
This is the time of the year that I cannot bear to be cooped up inside.
Temperatures are kind, the breeze is still fresh and a variety of wildlife visit all day long.

Dogus Maximus
Well maybe not so very wild.

We had a verge collection last week.
(For those unfamiliar with the term - Our local shire allow you to place hard rubbish
that cannot fit in a bin - think old mattresses, tellies and clothes drying racks - as well as green waste  - think bigger tree branches and nasty weeds - on the verge for council pick up.
They use a bob-cat and what takes you a week to trim, collect and bag takes them 7 minutes to clear.)

Hubby and I worked really hard to get it all done & then celebrated by dragging a cane chair
(that I had grabbed from someone else's verge collection -
 known as pre-verge collection collecting.
.... Or just scabbing)
up to the back of our block so that we could drink beer & hang with our Chooks.

Apricot Blossoms
We grabbed a bag of crisps, two ice cold Buds and sat back admiring the weekends efforts.
Thankfully I can now taste what I'm eating - still coughing like a seal in distress though.

Our pool shed covered in Potato Vine

Native Freesia
The weather was sublime and even though every muscle ached and I had cut myself to ribbons on a nasty plant - I was in heaven. Just the tonic for a recovering chest infection if you ask me.

I have big plans for this spot in the garden....
Soon to brim with herbs and cherry tomatoes.

The old garden trowel was kept very busy digging holes for bulbs, seeds and succulents.

So yes...
I will adjust. I will cherish Spring, survive Summer and then sweet ol Autumn will come
calling by again. Crazy seasonal sentiments.... sigh.
